Victoria state manager Dave MacLagan says he is “ecstatic” at being awarded two large security services contracts in phase one of the Victorian Government’s recently changed approach to obtaining security services.
After an exhaustive selection process taking over fifteen months, Wilson Security was one of five successful companies to be selected for the Victorian Government’s State Purchases Contract for security services. Wilson was then successful in securing the business of the Department of Treasury and Finance and the Department of Human Services’ Office of Housing – the owners of key government security contracts.
The contracts will see Wilson Security personnel responsible for the security of the nine buildings in the Treasury Reserve on the eastern fringe of Melbourne’s CBD, an important heritage area covering 2.9 hectares and in which approximately 3,000 government staff work.
Our responsibilities will include concierge duties, mail screening, mobile guarding, controlling vehicle access and monitoring CCTV systems. Up to 50 full time staff are to be assigned to this contract.
Meanwhile, the initiative with the Office of Housing will see Wilson Security help make a positive difference to quality of life on 12 estates throughout the greater Melbourne area. Under the plan, Wilson personnel will provide concierge services to prevent unauthorised access of non-residents, while vehicle and foot patrols will provide a visible deterrent with the aim of reducing vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the vicinity of the estates and helping to restore the sense of security among residents.
Some larger estates will also be equipped with control rooms with CCTV monitoring capabilities.
In all, the contract will require 150 full-time employees.
“I’m ecstatic to secure these two contracts,” said Dave MacLagan. “This puts us in a good position to tender for the business of other departments in the second and third phases of the process later this year.”
“I share Dave’s elation,” commented Wilson Security chief executive, John McMellan. “This client is a great fit for our Critical Infrastructure and Government portfolio. We believe that this is proof of the quality of service we have delivered in this sector over the last two years”
Wilson is also being considered for contracts with five other Victorian Government departments, with decisions expected later in the year.
