Wilson Security Officer Marie Kerrison, based at Melbourne’s busy Southern Cross Station, provided Victoria Police with assistance that led to the arrest of a woman attempting to abduct her children recently.
Victoria Police had provided Wilson Security staff at Southern Cross Station with photos and information regarding a mother and her two children aged eight and eleven years old, as it was believed the woman was attempting to take the children out of Victoria.
Victoria Police were particularly concerned about the children’s welfare due to threats made by their mother about a suicide pact involving herself and her children.
Despite the mother’s attempts to disguise the children’s identities, Security Officer Kerrison recognised the mother and her children at Southern Cross Station and immediately reported this to the Station’s control room.
Victoria Police were contacted and Wilson Security Supervisor Richard Jones attended the area with assistance from two Patrol Guards, Mike Kelly and Leon Fleming, who monitored the mother from a distance. Control Room Operator Stuart Brown also monitored the situation on CCTV cameras recording the footage.
Connex was alerted to the mother’s presence upon boarding a train and held the train until Police arrived; when the mother was arrested and the children recovered.
“I’m very impressed with the outstanding efforts of our team at Southern Cross Station. Marie’s diligence and the team’s handling of the incident is testament to the quality of guard Wilson Security works with”.
Victoria Police presented Wilson Security with a commendation and all staff involved were given gift vouchers and were recognised by Southern Cross Station in a small ceremony.
